Manchester United has been offered the chance to sign Wout Weghorst as new striker.

Wout Weghorst has 8 goals and 4 assists in 12 games in the Süper Lig for Besiktas but United boss Erik ten Hag has earmarked the 30-year-old Dutchman as an ideal alternate striker for Anthony Martial.

€10m buy option is included in the deal so it’s up to Besiktas and Burnley. The lack of a recall option may require negotiation between all three clubs. The player already gave his green light.

Weghorst appeared to wave goodbye to the Besiktas fans, much to the chagrin of coach Senol Gunes. “For Weghorst to say goodbye, he not only has to greet the audience but also needs to talk to the club,” Gunes said. “Nothing like that happened formally. I heard about the development but it’s not clear yet.”

Manchester United wants to sign a new striker on loan due to budgeting issues and a lack of top-class options in the market. Besiktas did not pay a loan fee but covered Weghorst’s wages.

Weghorst agrees with Ten Hag’s transfer strategy of favoring players he is familiar with or has coached in the Netherlands. Ten Hag and Weghorst are also from the Twente region.

Burnley signed Weghorst for £12million in January 2022 but he only scored two goals in 20 games as the Clarets were relegated after six years in the Premier League.
